Using Tags to Search Websites

One really handy method for finding a bunch of relevant content from a website all at once is to search via tag. A tag is a string of characters (words, phrases, proper names, etc.) that describe in whole or in part a webpage’s content.

When you see a search bar and that familiar magnifying glass icon denoting it, your best strategy for coming up with content you want or need is to guess at a match to those pages’ tag(s).

For example, you’re looking for upscale neighborhood hotspot guides for various cities around the country. DuJour Magazine is a luxury style rag with an extensive, well-organized website. Go to DuJour.com, type “Key to the City” in the search box, and dujour.com/tag/key-to-the-city finds salient content like dujour.com/lifestyle/billy-lawless-restaurant-owner-guide-to-chicago and
dujour.com/beauty/bluemercury-founder-barry-beck-interview/.

It’s a truism to state that finding information has never been easier in the whole history of the genus Homo or the species Sapiens. That fact does not immediately imply, however, that when you go looking for something, you’ll get what you want. For that, you must know exactly how to put it into words.
